Felix,openSUSE moved a lot of the config files under /usr and other directories. It was quite frustrating to go down this rabbit hole, and I do recall having to make changes to make kdm/kde3 happy (but I'll have to go back and figure out what I did -- that was 6-7 months ago -- and I'm getting old...)
There is /usr/share/X11/ and /usr/share/xsessions/ and (other paths) where files were spread all over the place from what had been nicely stored under /etc/ traditionally. I'll have to go back through my notes and my history log to find specifics.
I swear this is part of a Wayland conspiracy to fragment X11 until it is too frustrating to manage and then claim Wayland as the savior... ;-/
