I stripped KDE from a 32-bit mga5.1 installation, then installed trinity-tdebase and trinity-tdm to replace. Then I cloned it and used the clone to upgrade to mga6 while keeping the mga5 version of the TDE repos. All worked nicely until I accepted the suggestion to urpme --auto-orphans. Now attempting startx eats a bunch of cpu cycles, then exists with message line1: TDE: command not foundxinit: connection to X server lost. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
