No, I think it was a serious misunderstanding of the language I used.
In fact, I added "rightly or wrongly" to indicate that I was not
expressing any opinion about whether these peoples' various
conclusions were justified or not.  How you manage to twist that into
the idea that I am questioning anyone's self-determination is beyond
me.

Not that I am questioning your right to self-determination in making
bizarre and unwarranted interpretations of other peoples' writing.
Have at it.  Fill your boots.  Go wild.
