Thanks Christoph, This is very good progress overall, and we can move on with other needed cleanups and simplifications. As I said, I have a couple of fixes from Jenny that I want this to be on top of. I already took this set and added it to our regression and so far things look fine, no breakage. I'll submit the combined series soon enough!
