Nic,

I just got a report on github from someone who apparently built
target_core_mod in-kernel and not as a module. Of course, this breaks
many assumptions re. the userspace/initscripts.

Is that something that should be supported? Are there any caveats?

Ref: https://github.com/Datera/targetcli/issues/10

AFAIK no distros are shipping with built-in at the moment..

Sure. But apparently some users do it anyway.

As HCH + Ming highlighted, it can be really useful for kernel
development when booting vmlinux directly from qemu-kvm CLI.

OK, so we have a case for support in userspace.
Any idea on the best method to check what is compiled in from userspace?
