Multiple interfaces: LACP or multiple portals?

Hi list,

There was a comment from Nic on this list a while ago that when using multiple target portals, VLANning them off is necessary to prevent weirdness. I have a target portal group set up with 6 portal IPs (on 6 physical NICs), all on the same VLAN, and things seem to have been working OK with a VMware ESXi 5.1 initiator that has 4 iSCSI interfaces (although I haven't really inspected too carefully).

Nevertheless Nic's comment got me thinking about my current setup, so I thought I'd ask: is there any preference from a target perspective on whether you use multiple target IPs as I have, or just one single portal with an LACP port channel behind it?

Obviously I guess a lot of it will depend on the multipathing behaviour of the initiator, but wanted to ask if there were any gotchas from a target point of view.

Cheers!
