That might have been on of the original reason, but it's not true
anymore.  We already handle arbitrary sized requests full inside the
iblock backend, and we could trivially in the rd and file backends using
the same scheme.  The only thing that's somewhat interesting is the
rarely used pscsi backend, which might require a bit more work.
