How to wait for "loginctl enable-linger username" to finish?

Hello,
In a script I noticed that I needed to add a "sleep 1" after
"loginctl enable-linger runner", otherwise the next command
"systemctl --user" would fail.

Is it possible to somehow remove the "sleep 1"?
