Please find us ONE reference to a relevant, current *nix standard that says environment variables are either secret, suitable for secrets, private or the system is expected to treat them as such.

Breaking news.. no such requirement or even suggestion exists, environment variables just work this way. No need to be so stubborn when the world does not work the way you want to..just find a different proper solution to fix the problem.
