-----------------------------***----------------------------- >From the Surface Transportation Board, Washington, D.C. -----------------------------***----------------------------- The federal Surface Transportation Board announced today that it granted Grenada Railway LLC’s (Grenada) request to withdraw its proposal to abandon the southern segment of its rail line near Grenada, Miss. The Board accordingly canceled the public meeting the agency had scheduled for Nov. 16, 2011 in Winona, Miss. concerning the proposal, and discontinued the proceeding. On Sept. 20, 2011, Grenada had petitioned the Board for permission to abandon 81.3 miles of its rail line between Grenada and Canton, Miss., and on Sept. 29, 2011, the Mississippi Transportation Commission asked the Board to hold a public hearing in Grenada. On Oct. 25, 2011, the Board announced that it would hold a public meeting in Mississippi at a time and place to be announced, and on Nov. 4, 2011, the agency scheduled the meeting for Nov. 16, 2011 in Winona to allow the public and stakeholders an opportunity to comment on Grenada’s proposal. On Nov. 10, 2011, Grenada filed a letter with the Board requesting leave to withdraw its proposal.
