The Surface Transportation Board (Board) announced today that Canadian
National Railway Company (CN) has filed its first compliance reports
pursuant to the Board’s oversight of CN’s acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet
& Eastern Railway Company in Canadian National Ry. and Grand Trunk
Corp.—Control—EJ&E West Co., STB Finance Docket No. 35087. The Board
approved the acquisition on December 24, 2008, subject to environmental
mitigation and other reporting conditions, which require CN to submit
monthly operational reports and quarterly environmental reports to the
Board during a five year oversight period.

CN’s monthly operating report includes data detailing train volumes,
accidents and incidents, and street crossing blockages. CN’s
environmental report documents CN’s progress in implementing the Board’s
environmental mitigation conditions. The next operating report is due on
May 11, 2009. The next quarterly environmental report is due on July 10,
 2009.

To make the CN oversight process as transparent and responsive to the
public as possible, the Board has created a special oversight and
monitoring Web site located at http://www.stbfinancedocket35087.com. This
Web site will allow the public to review CN’s compliance reports, and to
submit comments on the reports. Other information available on the Web
site will include oversight updates, copies of public comments, background
information on the acquisition with maps of the project area, frequently
asked questions regarding the Board’s oversight, and related links and
contact information. There is also a link to the oversight and monitoring
Web site from the Board’s homepage at http://www.stb.dot.gov.
