The report generally follows the format of the earlier reports issued since the Board was created on January 1, 1996. The report issued today contains digests of: the Board’s history, functional responsibilities, performance and policy goals, and organizational structure; railroad restructuring proceedings; rail rate and service matters; rail oversight activity; rail labor proceedings; environmental review activities; rail financial conditions; National Rail Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) matters; issues relating to motor, water, and pipeline carriage; court actions; and various informational and statistical appendices.
