-----------------------------***----------------------------- >From the Surface Transportation Board, Washington, D.C. -----------------------------***----------------------------- Surface Transportation Board Chairman Roger Nober announced today that W. Douglas Buttrey was formally sworn in today as a Member of the STB following his November 3, 2003 nomination by President George W. Bush and his May 21, 2004 confirmation by the United States Senate. Commissioner Buttrey, a Republican from Tennessee, is the STB's seventh Member since the agency was established in 1996, and will serve for the remainder of a five-year term expiring December 31, 2008. Before joining the STB, Commissioner Buttrey was an independent consultant in Memphis, TN. Prior to that, Mr. Buttrey's private-sector career spanned 22 years with the Federal Express Corporation, where he held a variety of corporate positions, most recently that of Senior Government Affairs Representative. Earlier in his career, Mr. Buttrey served as Committee Counsel for the Senate's Aviation Subcommittee. He began federal service as an Attorney/Advisor in the Office of the General Counsel at the former U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board. Commissioner Buttrey earned his bachelor's degree from the Tennessee Technological University and his J.D. from the University of Memphis School of Law. He is a member of the Tennessee and District of Columbia Bars. Commissioner Buttrey makes his home in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Margaret.
