Subject: + bdi-avoid-oops-on-device-removal.patch added to -mm tree To: jack@xxxxxxx,axboe@xxxxxxxxx,dbasehore@xxxxxxxxxxxx,stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,tj@xxxxxxxxxx From: akpm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Tue, 11 Mar 2014 13:41:43 -0700 The patch titled Subject: bdi: avoid oops on device removal has been added to the -mm tree. Its filename is bdi-avoid-oops-on-device-removal.patch This patch should soon appear at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmots/broken-out/bdi-avoid-oops-on-device-removal.patch and later at http://ozlabs.org/~akpm/mmotm/broken-out/bdi-avoid-oops-on-device-removal.patch Before you just go and hit "reply", please: a) Consider who else should be cc'ed b) Prefer to cc a suitable mailing list as well c) Ideally: find the original patch on the mailing list and do a reply-to-all to that, adding suitable additional cc's *** Remember to use Documentation/SubmitChecklist when testing your code *** The -mm tree is included into linux-next and is updated there every 3-4 working days ------------------------------------------------------ From: Jan Kara <jack@xxxxxxx> Subject: bdi: avoid oops on device removal After 839a8e8660b67 ("writeback: replace custom worker pool implementation with unbound workqueue") when device is removed while we are writing to it we crash in bdi_writeback_workfn() -> set_worker_desc() because bdi->dev is NULL. This can happen because even though bdi_unregister() cancels all pending flushing work, nothing really prevents new ones from being queued from balance_dirty_pages() or other places. Fix the problem by clearing BDI_registered bit in bdi_unregister() and checking it before scheduling of any flushing work.
