Just a quick update.  I had a private exchange with Khalid and he's now
able to reproduce the issue.

My test program requires $HUGETLB_MORECORE to be set to yes as well the
$LD_PRELOAD to trigger the BUG.  I had it in my original report but when
I started this new thread I thought it was not necessary.  But it was
and Khalid figured it out.  My bad.
