This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled USB: serial: cp210x: fix partnum regression to my usb git tree which can be found at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/usb.git in the usb-linus branch. The patch will show up in the next release of the linux-next tree (usually sometime within the next 24 hours during the week.) The patch will hopefully also be merged in Linus's tree for the next -rc kernel release. If you have any questions about this process, please let me know. >From 7eac35ea29dc54cbc8399de84c9bf16553575b89 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Sebastian Frei <dr.nop@xxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2017 09:50:59 +0200 Subject: USB: serial: cp210x: fix partnum regression When adding GPIO support for the cp2105, the mentioned commit by Martyn Welch introduced a query for the part number of the chip. Unfortunately the driver aborts probing when this query fails, so currently the driver can not be used with chips not supporting this query. I have a data cable for Siemens mobile phones (ID 10ab:10c5) where this is the case. With this patch the driver can be bound even if the part number can not be queried.
