This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled perf callchain: Reference count maps to the 4.9-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: perf-callchain-reference-count-maps.patch and it can be found in the queue-4.9 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From aa33b9b9a2ebb00d33c83a5312d4fbf2d5aeba36 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Krister Johansen <kjlx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Thu, 5 Jan 2017 22:23:31 -0800 Subject: perf callchain: Reference count maps From: Krister Johansen <kjlx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> commit aa33b9b9a2ebb00d33c83a5312d4fbf2d5aeba36 upstream. If dso__load_kcore frees all of the existing maps, but one has already been attached to a callchain cursor node, then we can get a SIGSEGV in any function that happens to try to use this invalid cursor. Use the existing map refcount mechanism to forestall cleanup of a map until the cursor iterates past the node.
