Could do, I just wanted to avoid doing work somebody else might already
have done.

Long story (that includes reverse bisecting) short: Please cherry-pick

| commit a99aa42d0253f033cbb85096d3f2bd82201321e6
| Author: Andi Kleen <ak@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
| Date: Sat Feb 8 08:52:00 2014 +0100
|
| asmlinkage, pnp: Make variables used from assembler code visible

for 3.14. This fixes the described build breakage and does no harm
when using older versions. Obviously gcc 4.x didn't need this so it
hasn't been noticed as a problem so far.
