This patch series contains some patches needed to support
radeon graphics cards on ppc64/pseries systems.
This is a new feature, so why should it be included in the stable kernel
series? Can't you just wait for 3.10?

thanks,

Greg,

I think my request wasn't descriptive enough, so let me rephrase it.

These changes aren't actually for a new feature, they fix some
problems found during tests of a Radeon adapter on ppc64/pseries
system.

commit 88e7b167a079f090405ab4390b629b5effdab41a upstream.
(1/6: pci: Set dev->dev.type in alloc_pci_dev)
commit c2e1d84523ad2a19e5be08c1f01999cc9e82652e upstream.
(2/6: powerpc: Set default VGA device)

The above patches are necessary to have X to use the adapter with
autoconfiguration.

commit e61133dda480062d221f09e4fc18f66763f8ecd0 upstream.
(3/6: powerpc/pseries: Force 32 bit MSIs for devices that require it)
commit f1dd153121dcb872ae6cba8d52bec97519eb7d97 upstream.
(4/6: powerpc/pseries: Make 32-bit MSI quirk work on systems lacking
firmware support)

The above patches fix EEH errors when the adapter tries to set up the MSI's.

commit d82fb31abc46620b7c22758c75707069f2763646 upstream.
(5/6: powerpc/pseries: Perform proper max_bus_speed detection)
commit 7e0e41963740525af702bb23edede8ae9afc4ac0 upstream.
(6/6: radeon: use max_bus_speed to activate gen2 speeds)

The above patches fix the kernel oops that is triggered when the
adapter tries to force PCI-E Gen2 speeds.

The last four patches fix problems that make the radeon adapters not
usable at all on ppc64/pseries with kernels before 3.10, so these
are the more critical ones. If you think the first two are not
critical enough for the stable releases, we would be more than happy
with only the last four.
Sounds good, I've applied all of them, thanks for the explaination.

greg k-h

Great, thank you!
