My method has been to tag the stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with how far back
it goes. For example:

Cc: stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx #3.6+


But if I leave off the tag, it means that the bug was there from day
one, and goes back to all stable releases. I could put in a #2.6.32 tag
or something.

Do you send out a FAILED message if the commit was tagged for a earlier
release and doesn't apply?
