This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled KVM: Ensure all vcpus are consistent with in-kernel irqchip settings to the 3.0-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: kvm-ensure-all-vcpus-are-consistent-with-in-kernel-irqchip-settings.patch and it can be found in the queue-3.0 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From jslaby@xxxxxxx Mon Apr 1 16:37:16 2013 From: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@xxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2013 12:36:55 +0100 Subject: KVM: Ensure all vcpus are consistent with in-kernel irqchip settings To: gregkh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: jirislaby@xxxxxxxxx, stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Avi Kivity <avi@xxxxxxxxxx>, Michael Ellerman <michael@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Jiri Slaby <jslaby@xxxxxxx> Message-ID: <1363693019-14812-10-git-send-email-jslaby@xxxxxxx> From: Avi Kivity <avi@xxxxxxxxxx> commit 3e515705a1f46beb1c942bb8043c16f8ac7b1e9e upstream. If some vcpus are created before KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP, then irqchip_in_kernel() and vcpu->arch.apic will be inconsistent, leading to potential NULL pointer dereferences. Fix by: - ensuring that no vcpus are installed when KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP is called - ensuring that a vcpu has an apic if it is installed after KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP This is somewhat long winded because vcpu->arch.apic is created without kvm->lock held.
