This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled ipv6: use a stronger hash for tcp to the 3.4-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: ipv6-use-a-stronger-hash-for-tcp.patch and it can be found in the queue-3.4 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From a4a16926f7dd10e0c7edf990588b218d56625b25 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@xxxxxxxxxx> Date: Thu, 21 Feb 2013 12:18:52 +0000 Subject: ipv6: use a stronger hash for tcp From: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@xxxxxxxxxx> [ Upstream commit 08dcdbf6a7b9d14c2302c5bd0c5390ddf122f664 ] It looks like its possible to open thousands of TCP IPv6 sessions on a server, all landing in a single slot of TCP hash table. Incoming packets have to lookup sockets in a very long list. We should hash all bits from foreign IPv6 addresses, using a salt and hash mix, not a simple XOR. inet6_ehashfn() can also separately use the ports, instead of xoring them.
