This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled btrfs: update target inode's ctime on unlink to the 6.1-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: btrfs-update-target-inode-s-ctime-on-unlink.patch and it can be found in the queue-6.1 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit 20eb9ca642195bff2ee9caf0418d6c7a5bfc79fb Author: Jeff Layton <jlayton@xxxxxxxxxx> Date: Mon Aug 12 12:30:52 2024 -0400 btrfs: update target inode's ctime on unlink [ Upstream commit 3bc2ac2f8f0b78a13140fc72022771efe0c9b778 ] Unlink changes the link count on the target inode. POSIX mandates that the ctime must also change when this occurs. According to https://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799/functions/unlink.html: "Upon successful completion, unlink() shall mark for update the last data modification and last file status change timestamps of the parent directory. Also, if the file's link count is not 0, the last file status change timestamp of the file shall be marked for update."
