This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled tty: add the option to have a tty reject a new ldisc to the 6.1-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: tty-add-the-option-to-have-a-tty-reject-a-new-ldisc.patch and it can be found in the queue-6.1 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit 66ba59dd74fc288fc8f19cc6b642cbba27afd0ba Author: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue Apr 23 09:33:39 2024 -0700 tty: add the option to have a tty reject a new ldisc [ Upstream commit 6bd23e0c2bb6c65d4f5754d1456bc9a4427fc59b ] ... and use it to limit the virtual terminals to just N_TTY. They are kind of special, and in particular, the "con_write()" routine violates the "writes cannot sleep" rule that some ldiscs rely on. This avoids the BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at kernel/printk/printk.c:2659 when N_GSM has been attached to a virtual console, and gsmld_write() calls con_write() while holding a spinlock, and con_write() then tries to get the console lock.
