This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled HSI: omap_ssi_port: Convert to platform remove callback returning void to the 4.19-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: hsi-omap_ssi_port-convert-to-platform-remove-callbac.patch and it can be found in the queue-4.19 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit c479dbc2c44d3dabeec1eb829e48813c6d0d3fc5 Author: Uwe Kleine-König <u.kleine-koenig@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wed Apr 10 15:41:11 2024 +0200 HSI: omap_ssi_port: Convert to platform remove callback returning void [ Upstream commit c076486b6a28aa584b3e86312442bac09279a015 ] The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant.
