This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled hv_netvsc: Register VF in netvsc_probe if NET_DEVICE_REGISTER missed to the 5.15-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: hv_netvsc-register-vf-in-netvsc_probe-if-net_device_.patch and it can be found in the queue-5.15 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit 7a45ba5acfa54a330c3ea6aa99ff13b8e0840b63 Author: Shradha Gupta <shradhagupta@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Thu Feb 1 20:40:38 2024 -0800 hv_netvsc: Register VF in netvsc_probe if NET_DEVICE_REGISTER missed [ Upstream commit 9cae43da9867412f8bd09aee5c8a8dc5e8dc3dc2 ] If hv_netvsc driver is unloaded and reloaded, the NET_DEVICE_REGISTER handler cannot perform VF register successfully as the register call is received before netvsc_probe is finished. This is because we register register_netdevice_notifier() very early( even before vmbus_driver_register()). To fix this, we try to register each such matching VF( if it is visible as a netdevice) at the end of netvsc_probe.
