This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled eventfs: Use kcalloc() instead of kzalloc() to the 6.6-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: eventfs-use-kcalloc-instead-of-kzalloc.patch and it can be found in the queue-6.6 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From SRS0=eEWY=JP=rostedt.homelinux.com=rostedt@xxxxxxxxxx Tue Feb 6 13:10:47 2024 From: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@xxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2024 07:09:49 -0500 Subject: eventfs: Use kcalloc() instead of kzalloc() To: linux-kernel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>, Sasha Levin <sashal@xxxxxxxxxx>, Masami Hiramatsu <mhiramat@xxxxxxxxxx>, Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@xxxxxxx>, Mathieu Desnoyers <mathieu.desnoyers@xxxxxxxxxxxx>, Erick Archer <erick.archer@xxxxxxx>, "Gustavo A. R. Silva" <gustavoars@xxxxxxxxxx> Message-ID: <20240206120953.546131126@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> From: Erick Archer <erick.archer@xxxxxxx> commit 1057066009c4325bb1d8430c9274894d0860e7c3 upstream. As noted in the "Deprecated Interfaces, Language Features, Attributes, and Conventions" documentation [1], size calculations (especially multiplication) should not be performed in memory allocator (or similar) function arguments due to the risk of them overflowing. This could lead to values wrapping around and a smaller allocation being made than the caller was expecting. Using those allocations could lead to linear overflows of heap memory and other misbehaviors. So, use the purpose specific kcalloc() function instead of the argument size * count in the kzalloc() function.
