This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled ext4: improve error handling from ext4_dirhash() to the 6.2-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: ext4-improve-error-handling-from-ext4_dirhash.patch and it can be found in the queue-6.2 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From 4b3cb1d108bfc2aebb0d7c8a52261a53cf7f5786 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Theodore Ts'o <tytso@xxxxxxx> Date: Sat, 6 May 2023 11:59:13 -0400 Subject: ext4: improve error handling from ext4_dirhash() From: Theodore Ts'o <tytso@xxxxxxx> commit 4b3cb1d108bfc2aebb0d7c8a52261a53cf7f5786 upstream. The ext4_dirhash() will *almost* never fail, especially when the hash tree feature was first introduced. However, with the addition of support of encrypted, casefolded file names, that function can most certainly fail today. So make sure the callers of ext4_dirhash() properly check for failures, and reflect the errors back up to their callers.
