This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled ext4: use ext4_journal_start/stop for fast commit transactions to the 5.10-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: ext4-use-ext4_journal_start-stop-for-fast-commit-transactions.patch and it can be found in the queue-5.10 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From 2729cfdcfa1cc49bef5a90d046fa4a187fdfcc69 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Harshad Shirwadkar <harshadshirwadkar@xxxxxxxxx> Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2021 12:21:37 -0800 Subject: ext4: use ext4_journal_start/stop for fast commit transactions From: Harshad Shirwadkar <harshadshirwadkar@xxxxxxxxx> commit 2729cfdcfa1cc49bef5a90d046fa4a187fdfcc69 upstream. This patch drops all calls to ext4_fc_start_update() and ext4_fc_stop_update(). To ensure that there are no ongoing journal updates during fast commit, we also make jbd2_fc_begin_commit() lock journal for updates. This way we don't have to maintain two different transaction start stop APIs for fast commit and full commit. This patch doesn't remove the functions altogether since in future we want to have inode level locking for fast commits.
