This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled mm/ksm: fix race with VMA iteration and mm_struct teardown to the 6.1-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: mm-ksm-fix-race-with-vma-iteration-and-mm_struct-teardown.patch and it can be found in the queue-6.1 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From 6db504ce55bdbc575723938fc480713c9183f6a2 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: "Liam R. Howlett" <Liam.Howlett@xxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 8 Mar 2023 17:03:10 -0500 Subject: mm/ksm: fix race with VMA iteration and mm_struct teardown From: Liam R. Howlett <Liam.Howlett@xxxxxxxxxx> commit 6db504ce55bdbc575723938fc480713c9183f6a2 upstream. exit_mmap() will tear down the VMAs and maple tree with the mmap_lock held in write mode. Ensure that the maple tree is still valid by checking ksm_test_exit() after taking the mmap_lock in read mode, but before the for_each_vma() iterator dereferences a destroyed maple tree. Since the maple tree is destroyed, the flags telling lockdep to check an external lock has been cleared. Skip the for_each_vma() iterator to avoid dereferencing a maple tree without the external lock flag, which would create a lockdep warning.
