This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled Makefile.debug: re-enable debug info for .S files to the 5.15-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: makefile.debug-re-enable-debug-info-for-.s-files.patch and it can be found in the queue-5.15 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. >From foo@baz Thu Oct 27 12:31:19 PM CEST 2022 From: Nick Desaulniers <ndesaulniers@xxxxxxxxxx> Date: Mon, 24 Oct 2022 13:34:14 -0700 Subject: Makefile.debug: re-enable debug info for .S files From: Nick Desaulniers <ndesaulniers@xxxxxxxxxx> This is _not_ an upstream commit and just for 5.15.y only. It is based on commit 32ef9e5054ec0321b9336058c58ec749e9c6b0fe upstream. Alexey reported that the fraction of unknown filename instances in kallsyms grew from ~0.3% to ~10% recently; Bill and Greg tracked it down to assembler defined symbols, which regressed as a result of: commit b8a9092330da ("Kbuild: do not emit debug info for assembly with LLVM_IAS=1") In that commit, I allude to restoring debug info for assembler defined symbols in a follow up patch, but it seems I forgot to do so in commit a66049e2cf0e ("Kbuild: make DWARF version a choice") Fixes: b8a9092330da ("Kbuild: do not emit debug info for assembly with LLVM_IAS=1") Signed-off-by: Nick Desaulniers <ndesaulniers@xxxxxxxxxx> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> --- Makefile | 4 +++- 1 file changed, 3 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-) --- a/Makefile +++ b/Makefile @@ -870,7 +870,9 @@ else DEBUG_CFLAGS += -g endif -ifndef CONFIG_AS_IS_LLVM +ifdef CONFIG_AS_IS_LLVM +KBUILD_AFLAGS += -g +else KBUILD_AFLAGS += -Wa,-gdwarf-2 endif Patches currently in stable-queue which might be from ndesaulniers@xxxxxxxxxx are queue-5.15/makefile.debug-re-enable-debug-info-for-.s-files.patch queue-5.15/x86-kconfig-drop-check-for-mabi-ms-for-config_efi_stub.patch
