This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled KVM: x86/pmu: preserve IA32_PERF_CAPABILITIES across CPUID refresh to the 5.10-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: kvm-x86-pmu-preserve-ia32_perf_capabilities-across-c.patch and it can be found in the queue-5.10 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit 0d14144e398fae91e6b0de7c7baa213776e5dc72 Author: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@xxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue Feb 2 09:32:35 2021 -0500 KVM: x86/pmu: preserve IA32_PERF_CAPABILITIES across CPUID refresh [ Upstream commit a755753903a40d982f6dd23d65eb96b248a2577a ] Once MSR_IA32_PERF_CAPABILITIES is changed via vmx_set_msr(), the value should not be changed by cpuid(). To ensure that the new value is kept, the default initialization path is moved to intel_pmu_init(). The effective value of the MSR will be 0 if PDCM is clear, however.
