It's not going to hurt anyone to add it to stable, but it's a no-op
change as far as I can tell - the existing code was theoretically
wrong, but with no impact on runtime behavior. I don't know whether
you want those sorts of theoretical cleanups in stable?

To an extend, I guess. Unless you think we should drop it it's probably
worthwhile to keep these type of things in.
