This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled block: reopen the device in blkdev_reread_part to the 5.11-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: block-reopen-the-device-in-blkdev_reread_part.patch and it can be found in the queue-5.11 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit f92c5618ea74cf10c226511bf63c151f2c836d9f Author: Christoph Hellwig <hch@xxxxxx> Date: Tue Feb 23 16:18:22 2021 +0100 block: reopen the device in blkdev_reread_part [ Upstream commit 4601b4b130de2329fe06df80ed5d77265f2058e5 ] Historically the BLKRRPART ioctls called into the now defunct ->revalidate method, which caused the sd driver to check if any media is present. When the ->revalidate method was removed this revalidation was lost, leading to lots of I/O errors when using the eject command. Fix this by reopening the device to rescan the partitions, and thus calling the revalidation logic in the sd driver.
