This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled bnxt_en: fix HWRM error when querying VF temperature to the 5.8-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: bnxt_en-fix-hwrm-error-when-querying-vf-temperature.patch and it can be found in the queue-5.8 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit e9ef13aec7e3e7189e970d962888643b955c8c22 Author: Edwin Peer <edwin.peer@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Wed Aug 26 01:08:37 2020 -0400 bnxt_en: fix HWRM error when querying VF temperature [ Upstream commit 12cce90b934bf2b0ed9c339b4d5503e69954351a ] Firmware returns RESOURCE_ACCESS_DENIED for HWRM_TEMP_MONITORY_QUERY for VFs. This produces unpleasing error messages in the log when temp1_input is queried via the hwmon sysfs interface from a VF. The error is harmless and expected, so silence it and return unknown as the value. Since the device temperature is not particularly sensitive information, provide flexibility to change this policy in future by silencing the error rather than avoiding the HWRM call entirely for VFs.
