This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled ext4: increase wait time needed before reuse of deleted inode numbers to the 4.19-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: ext4-increase-wait-time-needed-before-reuse-of-delet.patch and it can be found in the queue-4.19 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit 88d150ad5d6eaf2e30a39c6d9d7036251e369681 Author: Theodore Ts'o <tytso@xxxxxxx> Date: Mon Apr 13 22:30:52 2020 -0400 ext4: increase wait time needed before reuse of deleted inode numbers [ Upstream commit a17a9d935dc4a50acefaf319d58030f1da7f115a ] Current wait times have proven to be too short to protect against inode reuses that lead to metadata inconsistencies. Now that we will retry the inode allocation if we can't find any recently deleted inodes, it's a lot safer to increase the recently deleted time from 5 seconds to a minute.
