This error can be reproduced simply by clicking "Add to Address Book "
while reading a message. The right window becomes blank and the error
above is logged in the error_log.

The full output is here (I think it was trimmed in a previous message):

[Thu Jan 12 20:53:15.313138 2017] [:error] [pid 26874] [client] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined
function eregi() in
trace:\n#0 /usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/add_address/functions.php(835):
aa_validate_email('sales@netlink-w...', 0)\n#1
build_address_import_list(Array)\n#2 {main}\n  thrown in
/usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/add_address/functions.php on line 718,

The addressbook entry is never made. I also tried removing the
existing addressbook, in case it was somehow corrupt.

The URL associated with the link that produces the error is:

I would think the address to be added should be a part of the URL?

I haven't made any changes from the default config_default.php file
other than copying it to config.php.

I've also sent in a separate email the output from phpinfo() on the
server as well as my local config.php. Hope that's okay.
