Note this (SquirrelMail login page) usually has nothing to do with
your users' mail.

Maybe you should look at your logs for all software involved.  Try
logging into SMTP/IMAP on the command line, etc.

SquirrelMail is a mail client, it doesn't handle the mail storage itself.
