Check if 144 port is open on your webserver/imapproxy machine.

netstat -an | grep 144

Check SquirrelMail configuration (conf.pl -> 2. Server Settings -> A. IMAP
server settings) and make sure that hostname, port and TLS settings are set
correctly. Or show your configuration here.
