Make sure to access src/configtest.php when you have any problems. As it says, you should have it set to 0 for SquirrelMail so when it uses string functions it can reliably know exactly what functions it is using. Even the PHP manual recommends setting mbstring.func_overload on a per-directory basis ( http://php.net/manual/mbstring.overload.php ), which is exactly what you should do.
