PLEASE configure your mailer to quote emails in the standard way with a prefix before them. Also, cutting part of the email you are replying to and placing it at the top of your new mail ruins the contextual flow of the conversation and is the same as top-posting. The point is for you to confirm the the credentials are EXACTLY the same for FTP and IMAP. If you are really sure you did confirm this, then you need to look at the FTP log messages and figure out what else they are telling you and fix that (maybe the FTP server is not listening on localhost or a firewall rule prevents FTP connections on localhost, etc, etc. None of these are SquirrelMail problems).
