Are you sure that you have tested 1.5.2svn? SquirrelMail 1.5.2cvs fixed
possible corruption with linefeeds on 2006-08-02.

The difference of the image
saved in Pine (Pine connects by IMAP, so it can't be dovecot error ! )
and in SquirrelMail is in the first byte:

And from SM: 0a ff d8 ff e0 00 10 4a .....
So the first byte is wrong.
create backup of your SquirrelMail installation.
check all functions/*.php files. If some file contains trailing '?>'
symbols, remove those two symbols.
then do same thing for all files in class/ and include/ directories and
subdirectories.
then remove trailing '?>' in src/download.php
Test your setup and make sure that your changes haven't broke it. Then
check if attachments are still corrupted.
The "magic" manipulations didn't give any effect.
Attached is my phpinfo file.
If they are still corrupted, please show your local PHP core settings
(http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/TestPHPSettings) and diff with all
changes made in SquirrelMail scripts. Please note that you can't run
unmodified SquirrelMail 1.5.1 in your PHP version.
