Under Tools->Send/Receive->Send/Receive Settings, open the Send/Receive Settings dialog for your IMAP account, and select the folders you want to check when a send/receive is done. Be sure Get Folder unread count is set too. Also, decide there if you want to download complete items (vs. headers only).
