Check Maildir directory permissions, ownership and structure. Each IMAP folder or maildir must have cur, new and tmp subdirectories in real filesystem. Subdirectories must be owned by user. User must have read, write and execute permissions. Courier does not drop connection when INBOX is selected, so main Maildir should be ok.
