default_pref file permissions

Hi, I have just installed Squirrelmail 1.4.9a and its working great. I have customised it to fit in with my current site, and all is well aesthetically. However, I have been trying to get the default_prefs file setup, and have logged in as a user and set everything up as I want all users to get, but I cannot open the .pref files, they are ‘permission denied’. I have tried to CHMOD them to open them, but they are protected.

My default_pref file is CHMOD 664 ( -rw-rw-r-- )

My donor .pref file is CHMOD 600 ( -rw------- )

I cannot open the donor .pref file to view the setting to insert them into my default_pref file!

HELP!

Ben
