Sendmail vs. SMTP - - pros, cons?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

SquirrelMail 1.4.6
PHP 4.4.4
UWIMAPD (IMAP4rev1 2004.357-cpanel)
Apache 1.3.37
CentOS 4.4
Our webserver runs as nobody.
IMAP Server Address: 127.0.0.1
SMTP Server Address: 127.0.0.1
Server side sorting is enabled
Server side thread sorting is disabled
register_globals are off for my installation, but they are on for the
rest of the server
Many plugins, including: Auto Complete; Folder Synch; Select Range; etc.

For my SquirrelMail installation I had been using SMTP to send the
outgoing messages. However, I've been trying to isolate another
problem so today I've been trying it using Sendmail instead.

Can anyone provide some comparison between Sendmail and SMTP for
sending outgoing mail from the server? Are there advantages of one
over the other, or disadvantages? Are there reasons why I should use
one rather than the other for SquirrelMail?

Thanks.
