I have checked when configuring the address book. It didn't ask for protocol.
Here are the options listed when selecting the address books in the conf.pl
Address Books
1. Change LDAP Servers
> localhost
2. Use _javascript Address Book Search
3. Global file address book
4. Allow writing into global file address book
Am i missing anything here that caused it not to ask for used protocol?

PHP LDAP extension uses v2 bind by default. When you configure LDAP
address book in SquirrelMail, SquirrelMail 1.4.3 and later version should
ask you about used protocol.
