Are you sure that emails are sorted by Date and not by Recieved date? Could you enable info plugin and execute 'SELECT INBOX' and 'UID FETCH 1:* (FLAGS INTERNALDATE BODY[HEADER.FIELDS (DATE SUBJECT)])' commands?
