This is not my area of expertise, but the auth_schemes directive does support ACLs, so you can tell Squid what schemes to use for what incoming traffic: http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/config/auth_schemes/

FWIW, older Squids did not access-log many requestless TCP connections. Their presence in Squid v5 logs does not necessarily indicate a change in traffic patterns.
