Many companies have tried it already, and there is a strong trend towards going out of business due to the customer backlash and bad reputation gained. There is a cleaner alternative. Which is to use HTTP redirect to divert customers to a "splash page" with your content that they have to click through to get to where they were going. This avoids all the legal issues and most of the securiy / techically difficulties.
